The Age of Wonders Planetfall Dev Diary: Unveiling the Secrets of World Events

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide a rich and dynamic gaming experience for players of Age of Wonders Planetfall, we're excited to announce the return of a beloved feature from the previous installment in the series: World Events. In this dev diary, I'll be joining Eowynil, a member of the design team at Triumph, to reveal some of the secrets behind these events and how they will enhance the gameplay experience in our upcoming expansion, Invasions.

One of the key aspects of World Events is their two-fold nature. Each event has both strategic and tactical implications for players, making them an integral part of the game's overall design. Inspired by cosmic events, we've taken a unique approach to crafting these events that are specifically tailored to Planetfall's gameplay. The result is a system that adds a new layer of depth and variety to the game.

The World Events feature is not without precedent, drawing inspiration from Cosmic Events in Age of Wonders III. These events have a significant impact on specific mechanics, introducing combat effects, landmarks, hazards, or even terraforming entire sectors. While most events are temporary, some effects can be permanent until removed by the player, adding an extra layer of strategy to the game.
